Michelle Tolley, a dedicated campaigner for individuals affected by the NHS infected blood scandal, was recently recognized at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards for her advocacy efforts. Alongside fellow campaigners Andrew Evans and Jason Evans, she received a Special Recognition Award last year.
During the awards ceremony, Michelle and other winners were pleasantly surprised when hosts Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo announced that they would all be receiving a cruise holiday from P&O Cruises, the new headline partner of the awards. Michelle, who had endured years of health struggles after contracting hepatitis C from a blood transfusion in 1987, was thrilled by the unexpected gift.
Despite facing health challenges and advocating for victims of the scandal, Michelle had not taken a vacation abroad since her marriage in 1984. The prospect of a relaxing cruise holiday to the Canary Islands was a welcomed change for her and her husband, Dean. P&O Cruises even organized a special vow renewal ceremony for the couple on board the Ventura ship, complete with a beautiful bouquet, photography session, and fine dining experiences.
Throughout the cruise, Michelle and Dean explored various destinations, including Madeira and the Canary Islands, immersing themselves in new experiences such as tuk-tuk tours and river cruises. They particularly enjoyed the vibrant landscapes and historical insights offered during their excursions.
Reflecting on their cruise holiday, Michelle expressed gratitude for the exceptional treatment they received and encouraged others to embark on similar voyages to enjoy the fantastic amenities and hospitality provided on board. The couple’s memorable journey left them eager to repeat the experience in the future, highlighting the joy and relaxation that can be found through cruise vacations.
