Shane Lowry was captured in a photo alongside the Ryder Cup, standing beneath a quote by Keegan Bradley that has since lost its edge. The American team captain had confidently predicted what his squad would achieve against Europe at Bethpage.

Despite the bold claims, the visiting team made history by becoming the first in over a decade to clinch victory on foreign soil, a record dating back to 2012. In the end, Europe triumphed with a 15-13 win, with Shane Lowry securing the crucial half point needed to defend their trophy from two years prior.

Europe dominated the tournament, leading 12-5 before the Sunday singles matches commenced, having triumphed in the initial four sessions of foursomes and four-ball play. Although the American team mounted a comeback during the singles matches, Europe managed to secure the overall victory, with Tyrrell Hatton’s half point in match ten sealing their success.

Lowry expressed his jubilation following the win, describing it as a lifelong aspiration in two separate social media posts. One of the posts featured Lowry holding the Ryder Cup trophy, positioned under Bradley’s quote which had been displayed on a wall at the course.

The infamous quote, “We are going to go to Bethpage to kick their f***ing a**,” was attributed to Bradley and was a highlight of the Netflix documentary series ‘Full Swing.’ Bradley had made the statement in the U.S. team room after their victory in the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal the previous September.

Despite the strong words, the U.S. team fell short of their goal, putting up a tough fight against Europe. Lowry acknowledged the challenge after his Sunday singles match, expressing his gratitude for the experience and the opportunity to contribute to the team’s victory.

For Lowry, winning the Ryder Cup held immense significance, surpassing even his triumph at The Open in Ireland. The intense competition and resilience displayed by both teams added to the thrill of the event, with Lowry acknowledging the strong fight put up by the U.S. team.

In other news, Sky has introduced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering savings of £192 and presenting viewers with over 1,400 live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League and EFL. The upcoming season will see Sky broadcasting a minimum of 215 live Premier League games, an increase of up to 100 matches compared to previous seasons.
