Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Donald Trump are proposed to oversee Gaza temporarily as part of a new plan presented by the US President to resolve the conflict in Palestine. The White House introduced the plan while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was meeting with Trump, outlining measures for ending the war and establishing new governance in Gaza. Hamas confirmed not receiving a written copy of the peace proposal yet.

The plan put forth by Trump involves setting up a temporary governing body led by him, with Tony Blair also included. It emphasizes that individuals in Gaza need not evacuate and stipulates the immediate cessation of hostilities upon mutual acceptance. Additionally, it mandates the release of all remaining captives within 72 hours of Israel’s approval of the plan.

Following their meeting, Trump urged Palestinians to take charge of their future, asserting that the plan empowers them to do so. However, he assured full US support for Israel in combating Hamas if the peace deal is rejected. Describing the proposal at a press conference with Netanyahu, Trump characterized the day as a historic one for peace, envisioning long-lasting peace in the Middle East.

Although Hamas has not yet agreed to the plan, it encompasses 20 key points, with specifics undisclosed. It envisions a provisional governing body with Trump and Blair at the helm. Reports suggest that Hamas fighters could receive amnesty, and their leaders might be granted safe passage out of Gaza to relocate to another country. Some Israeli officials advocate for continuing the conflict until Hamas is eradicated completely.

During his visit to the US, Netanyahu apologized to Qatar’s Prime Minister for an inadvertent military strike that led to the death of a Qatari serviceman and breached Qatari sovereignty. Leaders of Egypt and the UAE expressed support for the US initiative to end the Gaza war, emphasizing the significance of backing a peaceful resolution for enduring regional stability.

Protesters outside the US diplomatic office in Tel Aviv called for Trump to end the conflict and bring back Israeli hostages, rallying for immediate action. The demonstration featured chants demanding the hostages’ return and highlighted the families’ reliance on Trump to secure a resolution and peace agreement with Netanyahu.

Recently, Keir Starmer announced the UK’s formal recognition of Palestine, aligning with Canada and Australia in a coordinated effort to sustain hope for a two-state solution. Starmer commended Trump’s initiative to end the Gaza war, emphasizing the importance of releasing hostages promptly and providing essential humanitarian aid to Gaza residents. He called for unity among all parties to finalize the agreement and implement a lasting ceasefire, advocating for a collaborative approach to achieve sustainable peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
