Piers Morgan has publicly expressed regret and offered an apology to Alastair Cook after more than a decade of branding the former England cricket captain a ‘weasel’. Morgan had been critical of Cook, particularly for his involvement in Kevin Pietersen’s exclusion from the national team back in 2013. However, following a recent joint appearance on The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show, Morgan appears to have reconciled with Cook over his past remarks.

Morgan explained that his strong reactions stemmed from his desire to see Pietersen continue playing for England. He praised Pietersen as one of the greatest post-war batsmen and criticized the handling of his exit from the team, expressing disappointment that Pietersen never represented England again after the age of 33. Morgan acknowledged that he had been overly harsh towards Cook in his social media posts and extended his apology for the numerous derogatory references he had made in the past.

Despite the fallout with Pietersen leading to the end of his England career in 2013, Cook went on to have a successful five more years with the national team, amassing an impressive 12,472 test runs and 33 centuries. Cook has previously described the aftermath of Pietersen’s departure as the most challenging period of his cricketing career.
