The comments attributed to Mr. Jenrick were allegedly made during a gathering at the Aldridge-Brownhills Conservative Association dinner. His observations about Handsworth in Birmingham being poorly integrated and lacking white individuals during his brief visit sparked controversy.
Local MP Ayoub Khan condemned Jenrick’s statements, dismissing them as inaccurate and irresponsible. Khalid Mahmood, a former Labour MP for the same area, also denounced the remarks as negative and misleading, highlighting the diverse and resilient community in Handsworth.
Critics, including Anna Turley MP and Hope Not Hate’s Georgie Laming, voiced concern over Jenrick’s remarks, labeling them as divisive and potentially fueling far-right sentiments. Despite the backlash, Mr. Jenrick’s team chose not to respond to the allegations.
