Geoff Burrow, the father of the late Rob Burrow, has expressed his support for Lewis Moody following the England rugby icon’s announcement of his motor neurone disease (MND) diagnosis. Moody, aged 47, shared the heartbreaking news during a poignant interview.

Joining a list of former rugby stars afflicted by the degenerative muscle-wasting illness, Moody follows in the footsteps of Doddie Weir and Burrow, who succumbed to the disease after a five-year battle at the age of 41 last June.

Moody, visibly emotional about his uncertain future, received a message of encouragement from Geoff. The latter shared a fundraiser link for Moody and his family, urging people to unite in assisting them during this challenging period.

In addition to the fundraising initiative aiming to collect approximately £130,000 for Moody and his loved ones, Geoff highlighted the resolve and positivity Moody has shown despite the diagnosis. The GoFundMe bio emphasizes the importance of supporting the family as they navigate the challenges ahead.

Notably, Rob Burrow, alongside Kevin Sinfield, raised significant funds for charity and raised awareness about MND before his passing. Recognized with a CBE for their philanthropic efforts, they were surprised by Prince William at Headingley Stadium, where they both showcased their talents for Leeds Rhinos.

Moody’s candid interview with the BBC revealed his apprehensions about facing the future and coming to terms with his diagnosis. A key figure in England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup triumph, Moody enjoyed a successful career domestically, winning titles with Leicester and Bath.

This latest development serves as a stark reminder of the impact of MND on the sporting community, with Moody bravely sharing his journey and receiving support from his peers and fans alike.
