A man has been apprehended by police for the alleged murder of his 17-year-old daughter, reportedly because she desired to marry outside their caste. The tragic incident involved the father shooting his daughter, placing her body in a tarpaulin bag, affixing stones to it, and then discarding it in a nearby river.
Following a tip-off from a concerned neighbor who noticed the teenager missing since September 23 and heard gunshots and screams emanating from the house, authorities were alerted to the situation. The girl’s body was recovered two days later on a Sunday morning.
During interrogation, the man gave vague responses, raising suspicions among law enforcement officials. Subsequently, upon his arrest, he confessed to the killing after a heated argument regarding the inter-caste relationship with his daughter.
It is alleged that the accused committed the heinous act in front of the victim’s younger sister, packed the body in a tarpaulin sack, tied it with a stone, and disposed of it in a river near his ancestral village Bhagwan Singh Ka Pura. The body was later subjected to a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Initial investigations suggest that the girl’s desire to marry outside her caste led to the fatal confrontation. Despite attempts to dissuade her, she remained steadfast in her decision, ultimately resulting in the tragic outcome.
This incident follows another case where a father in Pakistan confessed to killing his 15-year-old daughter who had refused to cease posting TikTok videos. Anwar ul-Haq, who had recently relocated his family from the US to Pakistan, was charged with murder after admitting to shooting his teenage daughter, Hira, in Quetta.
Initially attributing the shooting to unidentified assailants, the father later acknowledged his responsibility, citing objections to his daughter’s online activities. Ul-Haq, a US citizen, had prohibited his daughter from creating what he deemed inappropriate TikTok content, and the family had reservations about her lifestyle and social interactions, according to authorities. The investigation is ongoing to determine the motives behind the tragedy, including the potential involvement of honor-related factors.
