Android users are advised to promptly update their devices as a new patch has been released. Although not as critical as the previous month’s upgrade, users are urged to install it without delay. According to Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at security firm Jamf, the latest Android security bulletin does not list any current vulnerabilities being exploited, but updating devices is strongly recommended. The fixes mainly target the Android framework, a prime target for cybercriminals, with the most severe vulnerability potentially granting attackers elevated access and administrative rights.

While this month’s Google upgrades do not include any “zero day” rated flaws, users should remain vigilant and ensure their phones are up to date to avoid potential attacks, especially for those running older Android software versions. Jamf’s Boynton highlighted four vulnerabilities within the Android system component that could allow local applications to access sensitive information or execute arbitrary code.

It is emphasized that the June security bulletin vulnerabilities have not been exploited in the wild yet, presenting an opportunity to patch all supported devices and stay ahead of cybercriminals. Pixel phones are likely to receive the latest patch first, with other manufacturers such as Samsung, OnePlus, Sony, Xiaomi, and Honor following suit.

Major Android firms like Samsung, Google, and Honor are extending support for phones, offering up to seven years of updates for many models. Users with older Android phones that have ceased receiving free security updates are encouraged to consider upgrading to a newer supported handset to ensure continued security.
