The current administration inherited a disorganized immigration system that had been neglected for years. Despite the Conservatives’ promises to regain control of the nation’s borders, they oversaw a period of significant failure. During their tenure, illegal people-smuggling operations thrived, the number of Channel crossings spiked, and the asylum process deteriorated.

Upon assuming office, the Labour government promptly took steps to address the previous administration’s shortcomings. Measures were implemented to enhance visa and immigration monitoring, resulting in a notable 30% increase in the repatriation of unsuccessful asylum seekers, an 11% reduction in asylum-related expenses, and an 18% decrease in the application backlog within just a year. These tangible achievements underscore the government’s commitment to rectifying past deficiencies, though the challenges ahead remain daunting.

In addition to these accomplishments, the government is forging ahead with further reforms. Plans include a new collaborative initiative with France, the introduction of enhanced anti-terror capabilities to safeguard national borders, and a comprehensive restructuring of the asylum appeals process slated for later this year. Efforts are also underway to put an end to the haphazard utilization of hotels as temporary accommodation for asylum seekers, a practice born out of the failures of the previous Conservative administration.

While the opposition party and other critics offer criticism without solutions, Labour remains steadfast in its dedication to practical outcomes. By equipping enforcement agencies with the necessary resources to combat illegal immigration, fostering productive global alliances, and expediting the closure of asylum hotels, the government is actively restoring order, fostering public trust, and effecting the necessary transformations for a better Britain.
