The Toronto Raptors have announced that they will honor Kyle Lowry by retiring his jersey number, No. 7, during a ceremony on January 10 after their game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Lowry will join Vince Carter as the only other player in Raptors history to receive this recognition at Scotiabank Arena.
Following his retirement in July at the age of 40, Lowry signed a symbolic one-day contract with Toronto to conclude his impressive 20-year NBA career exclusively as a member of the Raptors. Expressing his excitement about the upcoming jersey retirement event, Lowry stated that Toronto has always felt like home to him, and seeing his No. 7 raised in the arena holds immense significance.
Reflecting on his time with the team, Lowry emphasized the special bond he shares with his teammates, the organization, the city, and the fans, including those across Canada. He highlighted their collective achievement of becoming NBA champions in 2019 and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with his loved ones.
During his nine seasons with the Raptors, the six-time NBA All-Star played a pivotal role in securing the team’s historic championship victory. Lowry holds the franchise records for career assists, steals, and three-pointers, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players in Raptors history.
