Serena and Venus Williams have reunited for the upcoming U.S. Open doubles competition. The renowned sisters secured a wild card entry into the event they have triumphed in twice. This partnership comes after Serena’s return to the sport earlier this summer following a four-year hiatus. Their initial plan to compete at Wimbledon was disrupted when Serena sustained a knee injury during a singles match, resulting in her withdrawal. Despite a recent first-round loss at the Cincinnati Open, the Williams sisters remain a formidable doubles team, having clinched the U.S. Open doubles titles in 1999 and 2009 with a commendable record of 27-7 in their nine appearances.

In a display of their enduring prowess, Serena, aged 44, teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz for mixed doubles, securing a victory before being eliminated in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Venus, aged 46, is gearing up for the women’s singles event. The Williams sisters boast an impressive history in doubles competition, having amassed 14 Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold medals in 2000, 2008, and 2012. They also held the top spot in the women’s doubles rankings for eight weeks.

Although Serena decided not to participate in singles competition at this year’s U.S. Open, where she has claimed six of her 23 Grand Slam singles titles, she demonstrated her readiness by accepting wild card entries for both doubles events. Their first U.S. Open doubles triumph coincided with Serena’s maiden singles victory at the tournament, marking the beginning of their dominance as a doubles team.

Their notable achievements include victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2009, followed by another U.S. Open triumph later that season. They continued their success by winning the Australian Open in 2010 and securing the French Open title, holding all four major doubles trophies simultaneously. Fans can anticipate the start of the women’s doubles tournament at the U.S. Open on September 3.
