Miyu Yamashita had a victorious debut in Canada, claiming the CPKC Women’s Open title in Edmonton. The 25-year-old Japanese golfer secured her fourth LPGA Tour win and second of the year with a stellar performance at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Yamashita finished at 23 under after carding a 4-under-par 66 in the final round, dominating the $2.75-million US tournament.

With a commanding six-stroke lead going into the last day, Yamashita ultimately won by nine strokes over her compatriot Yuri Yoshida, who finished at 14 under. Expressing her joy, Yamashita credited the support of the fans for making her victory in Canada special, emphasizing the enjoyment she experienced throughout the week.

Standing at four-foot-11, Yamashita previously claimed victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic earlier in the year, following wins at the Women’s British Open and Maybank Championship in 2025, which earned her the Rookie of the Year title. She now holds the record as the fastest Japanese player to secure four LPGA wins, with her four-day score of 257 in Edmonton equalling the lowest ever recorded on the LPGA Tour.

In a standout performance among Canadian players, Anna Huang from Vancouver finished as the top Canadian with a 5-under 65, landing her at 12 under in a tie for fourth place. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, finishing at 11 under after a final round of 69, claimed the low amateur title for the second consecutive year. Two-time champion Brooke Henderson, hailing from Smiths Falls, Ontario, ended in a tie for 13th at 7 under after carding an even-par 70 on the last day.

Reflecting on the strong Canadian presence on the leaderboard, Henderson expressed excitement about the future prospects for Canadian golf. Huang, a 17-year-old rising star, secured her fourth European Tour win in August and made the cut at the CPKC Women’s Open after two previous attempts. Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes grant them entry into the upcoming LPGA FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, world No. 1 Nelly Korda of the United States finished at 1 under for the tournament. Henderson faced challenges maneuvering the rough terrain during the event, emphasizing the need for better putting to improve her overall performance in future competitions.

Looking ahead, Huang emphasized the importance of simplicity in golf, highlighting the significance of consistent fairway and green hits. The CPKC Women’s Open is set to return in 2027 at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec.
