Camryn Rogers from Canada and Ethan Katzberg emerged victorious in the women’s and men’s hammer throw competitions, respectively, at the recent Diamond League event held in Chorzow, Poland. Rogers, hailing from Richmond, B.C., showcased her talent with a remarkable throw of 77.09 meters on her fourth attempt, captivating the audience at the Silesian Stadium. She holds prestigious titles as the reigning Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games champion.

Following closely behind, DeAnna Price of the United States secured the second spot with a throw of 75.23 meters, while Italy’s Sara Fantini clinched the third position with a throw of 71.95 meters. In the men’s hammer throw event, Ethan Katzberg from Nanaimo, B.C., continued Canada’s dominance by claiming victory with an impressive throw of 82.92 meters. Katzberg now boasts Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games titles under his belt.

The competition saw Germany’s Merlin Hummel taking the second position with a throw of 81.25 meters, followed by Hungary’s Bence Halász in third place with a throw of 79.44 meters. In the men’s 100m final, Canada’s Andre De Grasse finished sixth with a time of 9.96 seconds, while Oblique Seville from Jamaica secured the first position in a meeting-record time of 9.83 seconds. Kenny Bednarek from the United States claimed the second spot with a season-best time of 9.87 seconds, and Christian Coleman finished third in 9.93 seconds.

The women’s 100m final witnessed American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden triumphing with a season-best time of 10.78 seconds. Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia secured the second position with a season-best time of 10.83 seconds, and Sha’Carri Richardson from the United States finished third in 10.96 seconds. Ethan Strand from the U.S. surprised everyone by winning the men’s 1,500m event with a season-best time of 3:30.77. Kenyan Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech and American Cole Hocker finished second and third, respectively.

The upcoming and final Diamond League meeting of the season is scheduled for August 27 in Zurich, Switzerland, followed by the Diamond League Final in Brussels. The global track and field season will culminate with the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, set to take place from September 11 to 13 in Budapest. Katzberg has secured a spot in the Ultimate Championship as the reigning Olympic and world champion in the men’s hammer throw, while Rogers, despite her impressive titles on the women’s side, will not participate due to the absence of the women’s hammer throw event in the championship program.
