Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been cleared to play after coming off the seven-day injured list and is set to participate in Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees. Guerrero sustained an injury during a recent match against the Yankees in Toronto when he collided with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. at third base during the sixth inning.
The incident occurred as Guerrero slid into third base and was struck on the head by Lombard’s knee and thigh, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the collision, Guerrero managed to score a crucial run before leaving the game. After returning to the team on Friday, Guerrero successfully completed his concussion tests and practiced in the batting cage following a minor league rehab appearance for single-A Dunedin.
Following a 3-1 loss to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday, Guerrero was placed second in the batting lineup for Saturday’s game. As part of the roster adjustment, the Blue Jays sent infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo. Guerrero, who currently boasts a .263 batting average with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, had been on a hot streak before the injury, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
