Surpassing the Shreveport Pirates’ 14-game losing streak in 1994, the Redblacks now hold the modern-day record, confirmed by CFL historian and league associate vice-president of football analytics and statistics, Steve Daniel.
The disappointing distinction of holding this record was acknowledged by Jimmy Fata, a devoted Redblacks fan present at the game. Despite the ongoing struggles, Fata expressed support for the team and highlighted the tradition of cutting a “wood cookie” for every touchdown scored at home games, though acknowledging the recent lack of opportunities to do so.
The Redblacks’ losing streak not only stands as a modern-day CFL record but also ranks as the third-longest streak in CFL history dating back to 1907. Another loss against the Montreal Alouettes would tie them with the Hamilton Wildcats for the second spot, with the first place held by two Ottawa CFL teams that endured a combined 25 consecutive losses in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
