A serious incident unfolded following a stabbing and car ramming incident outside a synagogue in north Manchester. The police have confirmed that officers shot and killed a suspect in response to the situation. According to a police spokesperson, the incident occurred at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Middleton Road in Crumpsall. Police were alerted at 9:31 am by a witness reporting a car being driven towards pedestrians and a man being stabbed.
Firearms officers were dispatched at 9:34 am after receiving reports of a security guard being attacked with a knife. Greater Manchester Police declared a major incident at 9:37 am and shots were fired by officers at 9:38 am, resulting in the shooting of a male suspect. Paramedics arrived on the scene at 9:41 am to treat four individuals injured by the vehicle and stab wounds.
The incident took place on the day of the Yom Kippur Jewish festival. Mayor Andy Burnham mentioned that people were attending a service outside the Heaton Park Synagogue at the time of the attack. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area as police continue to manage the situation.
