Russian drone attacks in Kyiv and the surrounding area continued for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, causing air raid sirens to disrupt daily life for millions of residents. The latest attacks resulted in four injuries and damage to various buildings and facilities, including a warehouse, an apartment block, and a retail outlet in the Kyiv region, as reported by regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko on Telegram.
The ongoing drone assaults, many of which are powered by jet engines, have inflicted casualties, destroyed homes, and disrupted daily activities in Kyiv and nearby regions. A recent attack on an ammunition depot led to explosions, resulting in the loss of 38 lives. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that the relentless drone attacks were intended to weaken the resolve of the Ukrainian people, with Russia launching close to 1,500 drones at Ukraine over four days, more than half of which were jet-powered.
Furthermore, a Russian drone strike caused a fire at a terminal operated by Nova Poshta, a private courier service, in the Odesa region. In Kryvyi Rih, a jet-powered drone attack on an industrial facility left two individuals injured, according to local officials.
Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated attacks on economic targets in recent weeks, with Russia targeting warehouses of major Ukrainian supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods stores. In retaliation, Ukraine also targeted Russian infrastructure, including a logistics hub in Yekaterinburg that was hit by a drone attack, as confirmed by the local governor.
The intensified air attacks by Russia, particularly the use of drones, have caused significant disruptions in Kyiv, with the metro service being halted during alerts, affecting daily routines of residents. Passengers, including a nurse and psychologist named Yulianna Oliynyk, found themselves stranded on metro platforms, waiting for services to resume amidst the ongoing security alerts. Oliynyk, with her two sons, had to spend a night with relatives due to the disruptions caused by the air raid alarms, contemplating the possibility of sleeping in the metro station near the school due to the unpredictable situation.
