The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, also nurtures the aspiration of owning property in Barry’s Bay, a desire shared with her cousins Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier novels. Ellie’s plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a lavish mansion, sparking potential romantic tensions against the serene lakeside backdrop.
As an accomplished writer and editor for various publications, including Refinery29 and The Globe and Mail, Carley Fortune’s literary repertoire includes “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” The latter, a finalist on “Canada Reads” in 2024, made history as the first romance novel featured on the show, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh.
