A tragic incident unfolded when a mother fell to her death from the seventh floor of her apartment building after the elevator malfunctioned. Pelin Yasot Kiyga was on her way to work on September 30 when the elevator suddenly stalled and then plummeted with the concrete counterweights. Her husband, Gokhan Kiyga, 34, made desperate attempts to rescue her, as shown in CCTV footage where he struggled to open the lift doors and sustain an injury to his foot in the process.
Despite his efforts to seek help and free his wife, the tragic outcome unfolded at their residence in the Altaylilar neighborhood of Tarsus, Turkey. Emergency services, including paramedics and police, quickly responded to the scene following the distressing incident.
Pelin, who sustained injuries from the fall, was swiftly transported to the district state hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to her severe injuries. The young mother from Mersin is survived by one child.
Post-accident images revealed broken elevator doors, with the crime scene cordoned off with emergency tape for investigation purposes. Authorities disclosed that 17 individuals have been interviewed, leading to the arrest of three individuals: the former lift company manager, the current manager, and the site manager. Concerns from residents about the malfunctioning elevator had reportedly been shared in the building’s WhatsApp group for over a month prior to the tragic event. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
