After a lengthy court case, a former adult film star has been found guilty by a jury for the murder of her ex-husband. Devyn Michaels, aged 47, was convicted of first-degree murder following a two-week trial where prosecutors and defense lawyers presented contrasting narratives to the 14-person jury.
The prosecution, led by John Giordani and Brittni Griffith, argued that Michaels harbored resentment towards Willette after losing custody of their children. Despite attempts by Michaels’ defense team to shift suspicion to Willette’s son, no concrete evidence, such as CCTV footage or phone records, connected him to the crime scene.
Michaels was arrested in 2023 after the gruesome discovery of her ex-husband Jonathan Willette’s mutilated body at his Las Vegas residence. Authorities suspected Michaels of disposing of Willette’s head in a nearby trash bin.
During the trial, prosecutors presented graphic crime scene images to the jury, including photos of Willette’s decapitated body. Griffith emphasized that Michaels felt threatened by Willette’s plans to relocate with her and his son, leading to drastic actions.
Michaels and Willette had been married in 2012 but divorced in 2018. Michaels later married Willette’s son, Deviere Willette, claiming both marriages were strategic rather than based on genuine relationships.
Deviere Willette testified that he played no role in his father’s death. During police questioning, Michaels mentioned hitting Willette with a “candlestick-like” object during what she described as a massage, resulting in his death.
Michaels’ legal team argued that she lacked the physical capability to decapitate someone of Willette’s size and strength, highlighting the absence of eyewitnesses to the alleged crime.
Before the trial, Michaels had admitted to second-degree murder, offering a chance for parole after 15 years. However, she later attempted to retract her plea, which the court rejected as voluntary and informed.
Michaels, previously known by other names in her career, expressed regret followed by insistence on her innocence, leading to the trial’s continuation.
