Aldi’s expansion strategy for this year includes the opening of 40 new stores in the UK, with an investment of £370 million planned. The locations for these new sites will include Southam in Warwickshire, Hastings in East Sussex, and Amersham in Buckinghamshire. This initiative is part of Aldi’s broader £1.6 billion two-year investment plan announced last year, aiming to reach a total of 1,500 stores in the UK.
CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, Giles Hurley, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable groceries to all customers. He highlighted the importance of making these products accessible across the UK, stating that it is a fundamental right for everyone to have access to quality, affordable food.
Aldi’s dedication to offering value to customers was recognized by consumer groups, with the supermarket being named the UK’s cheapest for the fifth consecutive year by Which? Additionally, Aldi secured the top spot in The Grocer’s ‘Super Grocer 33’ survey for the seventh time, reaffirming its position as the best value for British shoppers.
To further support its workforce, Aldi announced an increase in pay rates for store colleagues, with hourly rates set to rise nationally and within the M25 area. These adjustments, effective from March 1, 2026, aim to ensure that Aldi continues to be an attractive employer within the retail sector.
Throughout 2025, Aldi maintained its reputation as the cheapest supermarket, outperforming competitors consistently. The supermarket’s focus on affordability was evident in its pricing compared to other major supermarkets, with Aldi offering competitive prices and value for customers.
