Donald Trump has announced an expansion of his deportation plan for migrants, including legal ones, in response to the recent shooting incident in Washington DC. The attack, attributed to Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, resulted in the death of one National Guard member and left another in critical condition. Lakanwal, who sought asylum and was granted it during Trump’s presidency, has become a focal point in Trump’s criticism of Joe Biden’s handling of Afghan evacuees.

In a series of social media posts, Trump expressed his intention to target not only those responsible for the shooting but also any migrant group he believes is detrimental to the country. He emphasized the need for “reverse migration” as a solution. Additionally, Trump singled out the Somali community in Minnesota, announcing a temporary halt on migration from certain regions. He stated that non-citizens would lose federal benefits, and even citizens could face status revocation if they disrupt domestic peace.

Trump’s plan includes mass deportations of individuals deemed public charges, security risks, or incompatible with Western values, regardless of their residency status. He criticized the US for being overly accommodating on immigration issues and made unsubstantiated claims about foreign-born residents in the country. Despite his assertions, studies have shown that immigrants have lower incarceration rates compared to native-born Americans.

Furthermore, Trump targeted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, making disparaging remarks about their handling of immigrant communities. His comments about Omar’s background and legal status in the US were refuted with verified information. Trump’s rhetoric against immigrants and specific individuals has sparked controversy and raised concerns about the treatment of migrant populations in the country.
