Caroline Willgoose, the mother of Harvey Willgoose, expressed her readiness to confront her son’s murderer, Mohammed Umar Khan, despite his intimidating behavior during the trial. She advocates for the implementation of ‘bleed control’ kits in secondary schools, emphasizing that such kits could have potentially saved her son’s life.

The tragic incident occurred when Harvey, aged 15, was fatally attacked by Khan, also 15, during a lunch break at All Saints High School in Sheffield. Khan received a life sentence, with a minimum of 15 years detention, for the murder of Harvey. Additionally, he was found guilty of carrying a hunting knife into the school premises on February 3rd.

Caroline Willgoose, although deeply affected by the pain caused by the loss of her son, expressed her willingness to meet Khan, albeit with concerns about his apparent lack of remorse. She mentioned her intention to engage in restorative justice, a voluntary process facilitating communication between crime victims and offenders to address the impact of the crime.

Notably, Harvey’s grandmother reached out to Khan’s family post-sentencing to express gratitude for their efforts to seek help, acknowledging the challenging situation they also faced. Caroline is campaigning for the introduction of bleed kits and knife arches in schools, highlighting their potential to prevent fatalities in critical situations such as severe bleeding incidents.

She stressed the critical need for schools to have these kits, citing their effectiveness in saving lives in emergencies like car crashes. The cost of each kit is approximately £125, and she emphasized the scarcity of registered kits in Sheffield compared to London, indicating an urgent need to address the escalating knife crime in the region.

Collaborating with advocates like Courtney Barrett and Kyle Hotchkins, Caroline is actively working on a project to equip every secondary school in her city with bleed kits. She is also engaging with students in schools to raise awareness about the dangers associated with knives.

Despite the immense loss, Harvey’s friends continue to visit a bench outside the Willgoose residence, cherishing his memory and ensuring he is not forgotten. Caroline remains dedicated to her mission of promoting safety measures in schools and advocating for violence prevention initiatives.
