An acclaimed bed and breakfast establishment along with its café has shut down, dealing a significant blow to the local community. The owner attributed the closure to the challenging location that resulted in a lack of foot traffic.
The Dove Inn, a gluten-free café and B&B located in Alburgh, Norfolk, ceased operations last Friday after operating for two and a half years. Owner Sonya Resemblance expressed sadness over the closure, mentioning the wonderful patrons they had served during their time in business.
This closure adds to the mounting challenges faced by the pub and hospitality sectors in Britain. The White Horse, a well-loved pub in Beaconsfield, recently closed permanently, indicative of the struggles many businesses are enduring due to escalating costs and evolving consumer behaviors within the industry.
Despite its recent accolades, such as being named one of the top 50 cafés in the UK at the 2025 Small Business Awards, the Dove Inn ultimately had to shut down. The establishment, under Sonya Resemblance’s management since July 2023, offered a gluten-free menu that catered to patrons with dietary restrictions.
In a heartfelt message announcing the closure, Sonya expressed gratitude to the community for their support throughout the business’s journey. She highlighted the job opportunities and social value the inn provided, emphasizing the importance of such spaces for mental well-being.
Acknowledging the challenges faced in the retail and hospitality industries, Sonya mentioned the struggles the business encountered in its location. Despite efforts from loyal customers to keep the business afloat, the closure became inevitable, leading to an outpouring of support from well-wishers.
As the Dove Inn bids farewell, the closure serves as a reminder of the broader issues impacting businesses in the current economic climate.
