FC Metz rising star, Tahirys Dos Santos, sustained injuries during a tragic fire in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day, where 47 individuals lost their lives. The 19-year-old was reportedly present at Le Constellation Bar in the Swiss ski village when the fire erupted in the early morning hours.

Dos Santos, a reserve player for the club, was swiftly airlifted to Germany for treatment of his burns. FC Metz released a statement on their official website expressing their deep sorrow over the incident. The club conveyed their support for Dos Santos, who is currently undergoing treatment in Germany.

The club’s statement mentioned Dos Santos’ severe burns and his transfer arrangements to a hospital near his hometown. FC Metz extended their sympathies to Dos Santos and his family during these challenging times and urged privacy for them.

The tragic fire in Crans-Montana claimed the lives of at least 47 individuals, with reports suggesting sparklers in champagne bottles as the possible cause. The bar owners are in disbelief, and families are still searching for missing loved ones at the scene.

Witnesses described the rapid spread of the fire within seconds, forcing patrons to evacuate through a narrow exit. Apart from the confirmed fatalities, around 115 people, mostly young adults, sustained injuries in the incident.

Authorities categorized the blaze as an “embrasement generalise,” a term in French firefighting denoting a rapid ignition leading to violent combustion. Victims suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation, with some requiring transfer to specialized hospitals across Switzerland.

King Charles III expressed deep sadness over the tragedy, conveying sympathy to those affected and praising the emergency responders for their bravery. The monarch’s message to the Swiss President emphasized solidarity with the victims and their families during this distressing time.
