Police in Nigeria are expected to press charges against Anthony Joshua’s driver for ‘reckless driving’ following a tragic crash that claimed the lives of two of the boxer’s close friends. The driver, a 47-year-old member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, is set to be charged within the next 48 hours, according to reports.

After being discharged from a hospital in Lagos on New Year’s Eve, the driver was taken to Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state, where the accident occurred. He underwent questioning and provided an official statement detailing the events leading up to the crash, which resulted in the deaths of Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, both dear friends of Joshua.

Joshua, who was also released from the hospital, accompanied his mother in paying respects to the deceased at a funeral home before their repatriation to the UK. The driver, after receiving treatment for minor injuries, was questioned by the police and is expected to face charges for reckless driving in the coming days.

The incident involved Joshua traveling in a black Lexus Jeep that collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The driver of the truck fled the scene and is now wanted by the authorities. Initial investigations suggest that overspeeding and a burst tire led to the tragic crash.
