Vigils were held in Louth, Ireland, to honor the memory of the victims of a tragic crash that claimed the lives of five close friends. Chloe McGee, Alan McCluskey, and Dylan Commins, all 23 years old, along with Chloe Hipson and Shay Duffy, both 21, lost their lives when their VW Golf collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser on Ardee Road at Gibstown. The local communities and Dundalk were left devastated by the incident, as confirmed by the police who identified the victims on Sunday.

Family and friends of the group paid heartfelt tributes following the identification of the victims. Chloe, a woodwork and construction teacher from Carrickmaross in County Monaghan, had recently secured a permanent position at Dundalk’s Ó Fiaich Institute. Recognized for her dedication and involvement in various activities, Chloe was described as coming from a farming family and had two siblings.

Alan, also 23, hailed from a farming background in Drumconrath, County Meath, where he worked as a fencing contractor while assisting with his father’s farm. He was remembered as a gentle and kind-hearted individual who had just returned from a holiday in Dubai with Chloe. The local parish community mourned his loss, emphasizing his family’s active participation in parish affairs.

Dylan, a car and motocross enthusiast from Ardee, was a mechanic and close friend of Alan. Known for his intelligence and creativity, Dylan’s passion for his work and ideas left a lasting impact on those around him. His parents and three sisters survive him.

Shay, a Gaelic football player from Carrickmacross, was a student at the Dundalk Institute of Technology and had recently completed a plumbing apprenticeship phase. Described as an excellent student with a cheerful demeanor, Shay’s passing deeply saddened those who knew him. He is survived by his parents and two brothers.

Chloe, originally from Lanarkshire, Scotland, had moved to Ireland for her studies at DkIT. Fondly remembered for her humor and warmth, Chloe was praised as a diligent and friendly student by the institute’s staff. Her tragic loss prompted an outpouring of grief and support on social media, with friends expressing their sorrow at her untimely passing.

The community mourns the loss of these young individuals, each remembered for their unique qualities and contributions. As they are laid to rest, their memories will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished them.
