At least three individuals were swiftly transported to the hospital following a shooting incident at a shopping center amidst the Black Friday sales event, causing shoppers to seek shelter.
Authorities are currently conducting a search for the shooter who carried out the attack at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, California. Multiple individuals are receiving medical treatment for gunshot injuries, as confirmed by law enforcement.
The victims of the incident include a man, a woman, and a 16-year-old girl, all wounded during the event that took place at 5:40 pm local time the previous day, according to Sergeant Jorge Garibay from the San Jose Police Department.
Law enforcement officials have labeled the incident as an “isolated” one and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. The San Jose Police Department emphasized that the situation is under control.
Initial reports suggest that the shooting transpired following a dispute between the suspected shooter and the male victim, with the two female victims inadvertently caught in the crossfire, as reported by KRON4.
An eyewitness, Shawn Kulasingham, recalled hearing a loud noise followed by a chaotic scene of people in motion. Describing it as a stampede, he mentioned seeking refuge in a secure store, Abercrombie & Fitch, with his family, where they hid among clothing racks and cabinets while chaos ensued.
During the commotion, about 20 customers were guided into storage areas at Bloomingdales by store security, including Bilal Zuberi and his wife, who shared their experience online. Although they did not hear gunshots, they noted a sense of panic and were informed through overhead announcements to remain in place as a precaution.
