Donald Trump has a ten-day window to approve the bill mandating the disclosure of the Epstein files following a recent Congressional endorsement. Initially resistant to the idea and actively lobbying House members to distance themselves from the petition advocating for the files’ release, Trump’s stance shifted earlier this week.

Expressing support for House Republicans to pass the measure, which stipulates the files’ release in a searchable format within 30 days, Trump emphasized his indifference towards the disclosure, citing that Epstein’s associates were predominantly Democrats.

Assuring that he would endorse the bill upon receiving it, Trump stated, “We have no association with Epstein. The Democrats do. All of his acquaintances were Democrats.” He further remarked, “Let the Senate examine it. Let anyone review it. However, do not dwell on it excessively, as truthfully… it primarily concerns the Democrats. Epstein’s allies were all Democrats, and it’s a sham. The entire affair is a sham, and I prefer not to detract from the remarkable achievements of the Republican Party in recent times.”

Despite Trump’s insinuation that he would not feature in the files due to his Republican affiliation, a significant flaw exists in that argument. Donald Trump maintained a friendship with Jeffrey Epstein from the late 1980s until approximately 2007 when he claims to have barred the notorious sex offender from his Mar A Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. Notably, during most of this period, Trump was a registered Democrat.

During the period covered by Epstein’s federal charges (2002-2005), Trump remained a Democrat from August 2001 to September 2009, aligning with the time frame of the Justice Department’s investigation and the Epstein files’ contents. This underscores Trump’s dual role as both a friend of Epstein and a member of the Democratic Party.

Trump’s association with Epstein and his Democratic ties during the critical period of the Epstein files raise pertinent questions, despite his attempts to distance himself from the unfolding controversy. The evolving narrative surrounding Trump’s past connections and political affiliations adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the Epstein case.
