A significant update has been provided regarding the railway worker who courageously intervened during the Huntingdon train incident. Samir Zitouni, aged 48, was attacked with a knife multiple times by the assailant on the LNER service on November 1 while trying to protect passengers. Using a frying pan from the buffet area, he shielded travelers from the attacker’s assault. Following the confrontation, Samir was in critical condition, fighting for his life but has since stabilized and was able to communicate with his wife for the first time post the traumatic event.

Recently regaining consciousness, Samir has been steadily progressing towards recovery. Colleague Gemma Royce shared this positive development on a GoFundMe page created after the attack. Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support, Royce mentioned that Samir’s family is thankful for the kindness and generosity shown. Samir’s wife conveyed her appreciation to the hospital staff, LNER colleagues, and the public for their assistance and messages of support.

Huntingdon authorities swiftly responded to the emergency after the train driver halted at the Cambridgeshire station due to the stabbing incident. British Transport Police reviewed the train’s CCTV footage and hailed Samir, an LNER employee of over two decades, as a hero for his actions. Several politicians have proposed honoring Samir for his bravery and prompt response that potentially saved lives. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander commended his courageous and selfless deeds, wishing him and his family well.

The suspect, Anthony Williams, aged 32, was apprehended by the police and is set to appear in Peterborough Magistrates’ Court facing ten charges of attempted murder.
