Sky Q, a highly esteemed set-top box, is renowned for its exceptional features, including live TV recording, access to premium channels, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its popularity, Sky is transitioning away from the satellite-based platform to focus more on internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, potentially paving the way for new competitors.
Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that shares many similarities with Sky Q. Equipped with a built-in 2TB hard drive for storing extensive TV content, the Aura EZ offers a rare physical recording option in today’s market.
In addition to aerial recordings, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, enabling live TV streaming over broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a wide range of on-demand programs, allowing for easy relocation of the box between rooms, straightforward installation, and regular feature updates.
The Aura EZ boasts features like 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.
While Freely lacks Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it is a subscription-free service, offering cost-effective TV viewing. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.
Meanwhile, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. For £24 per month, customers can access Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max, along with over 130 premium channels under the Ultimate TV plan, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Sky Cinema customers will enjoy the addition of a new Disney movie channel directly in the TV guide. The bundle includes Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (from March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
