Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to a technical violation. The McLaren team’s cars did not meet the required minimum thickness of the planks during the post-race technical inspections, indicating an illegally low ride height. This led to their disqualification from the race results.
The disqualification significantly impacts the drivers’ championship standings, as Max Verstappen claimed victory in the Las Vegas race. With Norris and Piastri losing their results, Verstappen is now tied on points with Piastri and sits 24 points behind championship leader Norris with two races remaining.
Following the race, both McLaren drivers faced a hearing with the stewards that lasted over an hour. The final decision confirming their disqualification was announced more than four hours after the Grand Prix concluded.
Norris, who started on pole but finished second after a battle with Verstappen, expressed disappointment in his performance even before learning of the disqualification. Despite his efforts to regain positions, he acknowledged the superior pace of the Red Bull team and expressed his determination to improve for the upcoming races.
Looking ahead, Norris plans to take a short break to engage in recreational activities before focusing on the next race in Qatar.
