Millions of Gmail users will soon have the option to change their email address to a new one. Google previously hinted at this update, and it is now being rolled out globally. In an update on the Gmail blog page, Google confirmed that users can now switch their Google Account email ending with gmail.com to a different address also ending with gmail.com.
This change could be beneficial for users who want to update their username or have had changes in their circumstances. However, Google mentioned that the ability to change the email address is gradually being made available to users and may not be accessible to everyone yet.
The new system will allow users to keep both their old and new email addresses simultaneously, with emails sent to the current Gmail address automatically forwarded to the new one. Google assures that all account data, including photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address, will remain unchanged.
To check if you can switch to a new Gmail address without losing any emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Select Email and then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username you wish to use, ensuring it has not been used before.
– Click on Change email and confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the instructions on the screen.
Once the process is complete, the new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will be kept as an alternate email.
