Part of the M1 motorway had to be shut down following an accident where a vehicle crashed into a barrier and overturned. The closure affected the stretch in South Yorkshire, specifically between Junction 30 for Balborough and Junction 31 for Aston.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the site shortly after the incident occurred around 5:30 am. The police, fire department, and ambulance services are currently on the scene, as confirmed by the authorities.
To help divert traffic away from the affected area, alternative routes have been established for drivers.
The M1 northbound lanes between Junction 30 and Junction 31 have now been reopened after the collision. However, National Highways cautioned travelers to expect additional travel time as any remaining delays are resolved.
Despite the reopening of some lanes, part of the M1 northbound between Junction 30 and Junction 31 remains closed as recovery and road cleanup operations are underway at the scene, as verified by National Highways. Fortunately, there have been no significant traffic delays reported in the vicinity.
National Highways officially announced the closure of a section of the M1 due to an earlier crash. They stated, “The M1 in South Yorkshire is shut down northbound between J30 (Barlborough) and J31 (Aston) following an accident.”
They further detailed, “At approximately 05:30 this morning, National Highways were notified of a vehicle colliding with the barrier on the nearside. South Yorkshire Police, Fire, Ambulance Services, and National Highways Traffic Officers are presently on site.”
