An individual convicted of heinous crimes has been sentenced to prison for assaulting two underage girls in a brutal incident. Steven Biggs, 42, encountered the two victims, aged 13 and 14, while they were walking on a neighborhood street. They approached him for a cigarette while he was in his front yard during the early hours of August 4, 2020.
Biggs welcomed them into his residence and coerced one of the girls into a bedroom where he sexually assaulted her. The other girl, who was waiting outside, attempted to leave, but Biggs compelled both of them to return inside where he committed further assaults.
The disturbing incidents occurred in the early morning hours at a property on Freemans Way, Deal, as revealed during the trial at Canterbury Crown Court. Kent Police were informed on September 3, 2020, after one victim confided in a family member, leading to Biggs’ arrest on November 29, 2020.
Following a three-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court, where Biggs opted not to testify, the jury unanimously found him guilty on September 24. He was charged with multiple sexual offenses, including three counts of rape, resulting in an 18-year prison sentence.
Additionally, Biggs will be under indefinite sex offender notification requirements and will face restrictions imposed by a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Detective Constable Linda Gavin expressed the severity of the crime, praising the victims’ bravery and contribution to delivering justice. She emphasized that Biggs’ actions caused significant trauma to the young girls and highlighted the importance of the lengthy prison sentence in preventing harm to potential future victims.
