David McDonald, an 85-year-old golfer from Fall River, N.S., recently accomplished a remarkable feat by shooting an even-par 72 at the challenging Ashburn Golf Club course. Despite playing from the silver tees, which are nearly 5,800 yards long, McDonald managed to surpass his age by 13 strokes, showcasing his exceptional golfing skills.

McDonald, who golfs three to four times a week and prefers walking the course, emphasized the importance of staying active and maintaining physical strength. He attributed his success to consistent practice and healthy habits, highlighting the significance of regular exercise and a balanced diet for longevity.

Peter Stirling, a friend of McDonald who often plays golf with him, praised McDonald’s dedication to the sport and his fitness level. Stirling mentioned that McDonald’s commitment to walking the course and staying fit has been instrumental in his ability to excel on the golf course.

McDonald’s passion for golf dates back to when he was stationed in Cape Breton with the air force at the age of 30. He quickly developed a talent for the game and went on to win three national titles in military tournaments. After retiring from the military in 1995, McDonald continued his golfing pursuits, winning the provincial senior men’s championship consecutively from 1996 to 2000.

With 17 career holes-in-one under his belt, McDonald remains determined to achieve his 18th ace. His passion for the game, coupled with a disciplined approach to health and fitness, has been key to his enduring success on the golf course.

McDonald’s impressive golfing abilities and dedication serve as a testament to the adage that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing one’s passion and staying active.
