A tragic incident occurred at a nursery where a young boy died from being caught in his own jumper. The victim, Leonardo Ricci, aged two, was discovered unresponsive by nursery staff in Bibbiena, a town near Arezzo, Italy. Reports indicate that the child was playing in the nursery garden when his sweatshirt got entangled in a tree.
Despite efforts by medical personnel who administered CPR for over an hour, Leonardo could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene. Local authorities swiftly responded, evacuating the nursery and establishing a cordon. The community gathered outside the nursery gates, visibly distraught by the heartbreaking turn of events.
Bibbiena’s mayor, Filippo Vagnoli, visited the site as prosecutors initiated a manslaughter investigation. The nursery, managed by the Koiné cooperative, expressed deep sorrow for the child’s family and pledged full cooperation with the authorities during the investigation.
In a separate incident, an 85-year-old British woman lost her life in Portugal when a severe weather event, possibly a tornado linked to Storm Claudia, struck a campsite and hotel near Albufeira. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found among the debris after initially being reported missing.
Authorities described the weather event as an “extreme wind phenomenon,” with Portugal’s weather agency indicating a high likelihood of a tornado. A total of 28 individuals, including British, Portuguese, and Spanish nationals aged between six and 86, sustained injuries from the twister. The Hotel Eden and a nearby campsite were significantly impacted, resulting in multiple injuries, including one serious injury at each location.
